Horror Franchises.
October 25th, 2007 by Stevie-poo
After commenting on MaT’s top 5 post, I, for whatever reason, started thinking about horror franchises. The film series that produced the most recognizable horror icons around today. The ones that always come to mind to me are A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And you know what? Elm Street is the only franchise whose first film in the series isn’t one I abso-fucking-lutely despise. I have a feeling I’m in the extreme horror minority.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre = suck.
Friday the 13th = suck.
Halloween = super suck.

What the hell did you break? All the text is now in italics on my screen on the main page
Of the franchises you mention, I like the Elm Street films the most, but I prefer the character of Jason over Freddy.

I fixed it. It was easy. Forgot to close an italics tag.
That was kind of cool though. Now if one day I want to make everything on the blog bold I know how to do it.

At least you didn’t say that NOES sucks.

You can’t be suggesting that the sequals following those films improved on them? Cuz, dayum.
Halloween “super-suck”? Yikes. Okay, go watch Rob Zombie’s version again, and you’re welcome to it. There’s sure to be plenty of those DVDs on the shelves, and if there’s any justice in the world they’ll stay there.

I’m with you, Larry. There was a time when I thought Mat was our most contrarian writer, who’d say “I hate X” just to get a rise out of people. But now I think Steve has usurped the throne.
He also hates Jaws, for added context

goddamit, if something sucks, i will say it sucks. It has nothing to do with whether or not I want to be “contrarian”!
Last Boy Scout sucks because it SUCKS

I don’t like any of the Halloween or Chainsaw movies. I thought the Chainsaw remake was much better than the original. And I didn’t like the Friday the 13th movies until the later ones that had a bit of humor in them.
Jason Takes Manhattan = awesome.
Freddy easily beats all of the other franchises icons in my opinion. The man just has personality. Jason and Micheal Myers are bricks carrying around knives and I don’t remember Leatherface having any sort of really personality until that god awful sequel where they made him a cross-dresser.
