Manhunt 2 has been getting pretty good reviews, although I’m sure a lot of people fall squarely into the “not interested” category, like the guys over at Penny Arcade. I love PA, but I don’t really appreciate Tycho’s assessment that Manhunt 2’s entire purpose is to “make your parents mad.”

I’ve been playing the game in short bursts for the past few nights. I’m a few levels in and am really enjoying it. But then, I loved the first Manhunt so I guess I am the target audience for this sequel.

I can definitely see how it’s not a wide-appeal game, and I can also see where people could feel like Tycho does and think the game is just gratuitously offensive. For example, last night I played a level where I had a shoot-out in a porno theater, complete with a skin flick playing on the movie screen during the battle. Not exactly subtle.

I hope to put in a few more hours over the weekend and will talk a little about it on the next Splattercast.
