Killer

I’m not gonna brag and say we started a trend of local horror movies or anything (ok, maybe I am :) ), but tonight there is a free local horror flick showing at The Ross. The flick is called “Killer” and here’s the synopsis:

Mary Shelly’s (Abbey Bruntz) world comes crashing down with the murder of her parents. Sent to live with her aunt (Dorothy Booraem) in a lonely, old mansion, Mary encounters a retinue of odd characters: The lecherous sheriff (Sandris Rutmanis); an accident-prone handyman (Andy Ozols); and, a priest (Mike DeVall) who makes late night house calls. To make matters worse, as she struggles to come to term with her fate, she experiences disturbing mental images. Are they premonitions? Dreams? Old memories? While Mary sorts out the truth, people begin to die.

Killer is a throwback to the horror films of yesteryear, emphasizing mood over special effects. It follows the tradition that true horror resides in the mind; even the best of digital manipulation pales in comparison to the power of imagination. Killer uses vivid, surreal images, and camera angles unusual for American cinema.

This movie by first-time director Pete Lipins was seven years in the making. It is a testament to what the power of dedication, hard work, and imagination can achieve.

So there ya go. If you need another excuse to go: it’s free. 3 p.m. today.
