MaT’s Journal #5: A week of no updates?
Any American worth his or her salt will tell you that Football is awesome. I’ve been sitting around for a couple hours online waiting patiently for the rain to stop in Tallahassee. You see, even though I live in Lincoln Nebraska, where the Cornhuskers are religion, I’m a Florida State Seminoles fan. Always have been. That’s pretty much sacrilege here in Lincoln. FSU has been pretty mediocre the past few years, but I still have fun walking around downtown in my Noles hoodie each Saturday getting dirty looks from old men
p.s. Why the hell are they starting Christian Ponder? Ponder looks like another Chris Rix/Drew Weatherford. Get D’Vontrey Richardson in there, dammit!
p.s.s. DOINK
So what did I do earlier today? Oddly enough, I viewed House of a 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects back-to-back. Ever since I found out that I have Fearnet on demand, I have access to a dozen or so free horror movies every month. I guess this is Rob Zombie month or something because they had both of the flicks posted. For some reason I got it into my head that “Gee whiz, I rag on Rob Zombie pretty bad all the time, I wonder if a fresh viewing of his films will change my perspective a bit?”. The answer to that question is a resounding “NO”. As I finished up Corpses, two words came to my mind: Uwe. Boll. If Boll’s name had been attached to this instead of Zombie, people would be destroying it. It’s that bad. Horrid acting, writing, cinematography, scene transitions…everything. Yikes. But I soldiered on and caught The Devil’s Rejects. Time has certainly not warmed me to this film either. On a technical level, it is far more polished than Corpses, and Sid Haig delivers a great performance, but the film is completely devoid of any substance. I was asking myself “What the hell am I supposed to be watching? What am I supposed to be feeling? What is the point?” There’s just nothing to this movie other than recycled shots, plot points, and violence. There’s plenty of Zombie fanboys out there and I’m sure they’ll let me hear about it in the blog responses, but damn, Zombie is simply repulsive as a filmmaker. He sucks and I’m not going to back down from that statement.
Oh and as I was watching the films, Fearnet was showing the trailer for Midnight Meat Train. Apparently they are going to be showing it next month. I’ll finally have the chance to see what all the stupid fuss is about and won’t even have to pay a dollar to see it ![]()

jajajajjaaj, Rob Zombie. I wish he’d stuck to music.

Although, Devil’s Rejects was at least two times better than how terrible House was.

Yes, Rejects is a better film than Corpses. And I think that skews how a lot of people look at Rejects. It’s totally vapid, though.

…then I wish he’d EVOLVE his music a bit more. Let’s play a Rob Zombie drinking game, everytime he says “Yeeeah” take a drink and try to get past track 3 on ANY of his albums.
I dare ya.
And I’ve met the guy, TWICE! Pretty nice for a celebrity, both times.

I didn’t like Corpses much at all but do enjoy Rejects.
Some people still need a tampon after their bitching of Midnight Meat Train.

I liked House of 1,000 Corpses…I hated Devil’s Rejects…the second one was like some redneck rock music video glorifying violence I wasn’t inclined to be shocked by due to having already seen that level and it ruined the Moseley’s character by killing off most of his big long rants…he did not seem like the same dude.

I like both of them, to varying degrees. I’ve never had trouble enjoying lesser movies.

“I’ve never had trouble enjoying lesser movies.”
Understatement of the millenium.
