Hey Jude

On Splattercast #99, I asked T.J. for some advice on where to start with the Beatles’ catalog. I’m not anti-Beatle by any means; I just never got into them and am unfamiliar with their important works, so I appreciate T.J.’s input. I’m going to steal some mp3s buy some songs from iTunes and start doing my Beatle homework.

In the meantime, I found this vid of a live Beatles performance. I think it’s pretty great and am excited to hear more. I always thought it was like four dudes in the band, but I guess it’s just the one girl? Anyway, check it out…

  • Awesome

  • I’m a long-time fan.

That’s one band that it’s impossible to NOT find plenty of examples of. Swing by YouTube, they’ve got plenty of videos and songs to sample.

Did you know The Beatles were the first ones to make what became known as music videos? Ed Sullivan wanted them back for another appearance and they couldn’t make it because they were on a world tour, so they recorded some video performances of songs and sent them to air on the show.

  • The scopitone was also an early music video format (like juke boxes with videos) and eventually labels produced videos (still do) to send to label and industry reps (radio & tv stations) to present the artists. Thats where many of the early MTV videos came from and explains Rod Stewart’s success in the 80s.

  • I only got into The Beatles about four years ago. I listened to a couple of albums and then immediately got them all, along with the Anthology DVDs and have been in love since.

My favorite by far is Magical Mystery Tour. I always get a kick out of this video:

(How do I embed a Youtube video??)

My husband likes to think he’s Lennon reincarnated.
