The Day After
Yes we can!
I’m not really sure how to explain how I’m feeling right now. So many positive and negative emotions that have been built up over the past 8 years just exploded last night. Obama’s win is personal to me because I’ve been there from the beginning. In 2004 I told my friends that this man would be president. I supported him from day one when he announced his campaign. I’ve spent almost two years following the news day after day worrying about poll numbers. I’ve gone through all the ups and downs of the primary campaign and the Hillary drama and the McCain sleaze tactics. I donated a couple hundred bucks, convinced my family members (well, most of them) to get out and vote for the first time in years. The small amount of things I did pale in comparison to the actual campaign workers who flooded states, registered voters, knocked on doors, and got out the vote. But I still feel like I contributed to history. Conservatives will cringe but I really believe in the guy. I honestly think he can better our country. Whether he does or not is a debate for another day. We’ll find out when he gets into office, but right now I’m just incredibly proud, happy, amazed, you name it.
It’s a feeling that I’m sure Republicans had in ’80 when Reagan won. Or even in ’04 when Bush won. It’s the feeling that comes along with the sense that you’ve accomplished something. You’ve achieved what you set out to do. You’ve won. It’s amplified for many Democrats because of the utter disappointments of the 2000 and 2004 elections. It’s just an amazing feeling right now.
Time will tell whether or not President Obama (!) lives up to the hope he’s given to so many people in this country. And there will be a time for criticism. But for now, on a personal level, I’m going to spend as much time as possible enjoying the afterglow.

In all my life I never thought I’d live to see this nation except someone with a different skin color as much as this Obama is now our president and for every one who reads this be you for or against the man and his far left status and some of you say communist some of you say socialist some of you out and out say nigger.
I can’t help but sit back and think to my self how far we have come as a nation as a untied front of humans unity is the word of the day children we are leaps and bounds from Jim crow and slaves there isn’t a black side nor a white side just a human side and if you are against the man you have now 4 years to sit back and eat crow cause he made. We made it……
We are far from fire hoses and dog attacks and lynchings we are all equals and now we have made the leaps and bounds to prove it. I went out voted and could feel the change in the air 8 years of repetitive bullshit and tired polices and our country in a spiral of decline and debt and us fighting a war that was not winnable.
Change happened and I’m alive to see and so proud tonight to call my self an American (and I never thought I’d say that) and to call myself a supporter of this president. Hope is something we need in these times as well as change and we got it.

I agree, Frank. The historical nature of what Obama’s candidacy means is incalculable. Even the coldest heart of the Republican party have to feel a little warmer that our country could do this. We’re the only western country that has ever elected a minority to the highest office. Europe hasn’t even done it. If nothing else, the world is looking at America with amazement again instead of the complete hatred that Bush caused. Symbolically, Obama has already improved the image of our country around the world. I don’t think that can be denied. And whether conservatives like it or not, that’s important for all sorts of reasons.

Is this shit going to go on much longer? Are you guys going to post anything about horror movies anytime soon?
Women in Horror, that was a good one, you should do more of those. Photos of cats even.
Because if I see just one photoshop of Obama with wings and a halo, I will have to kill myself and everyone around me.
Yes, I can.

Sorry Larry, this is what you’re getting from here on out. It’s our new niche. There are too many horror sites, and way too many political sites… but there’s only one poli-horror site: your pals here at DeadLantern.com

I suppose it is time to ask the inevitable question. How much does President Obama owe to Dennis Haysbert? Because surely the first really popular Black American President was David Palmer in 24.
I think he led the way for Americans to see a man of strength and integrity in the whitehouse who wasn’t an old white guy.
Also, the international community continues to be happy for the outcome of the election.

Congrats MaT. I feel pretty similar. Shut off the cynical voices and take it in.

A real ‘gem’ from the south:
White hick guy comes in the store, buys two beers, and promptly tells the guy behind him in line that he just came from Guns N Ammo “which is where all the smart white people are shopping today”.
Ugh. I hate it here.
