Splattercast #138 featuring guest host Teen*Idol

Splattercast #138 is up. Special thanks to guest host Teen*Idol. Be sure to check out his podcast, Slackers Ate My Neighbors.

Teen*Idol selected a pair of Spanish films for this episode, the intentionally funny Mucha Sangre and the unintentionally hilarious Pieces. For the most part, we enjoyed both films and would recommend them to our listeners.

Here’s a pic of the cover art for the new release of Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark. Am I crazy, or are they trying to trade on the success of Twilight with this cover design? On one hand, it’s sad that they need to tart up Near Dark in that way but, on the other hand, if it gets more people to take a look at Bigelow’s film, then that’s not so bad.

  • If you have to fool people into thinking a film is something that it’s not to get them to buy it, it’s really sad.

I’d give this a pass though. Paxton and company are on the cover too at least.

  • Love me some Pieces too. Bought it for $1 on DVD a while ago. Now I’ll have to check out Mucha Sangre. That’s Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark? You’re right–totally trying to cash in on the Twilight craze.

  • Was that “Chixdiggit” as the outtro music?? FANTASTIC

  • Yup, Chixdiggit. I took a shot in the dark :)

  • Eh, Near Dark isn’t that good anyway.

  • The mention of “Cthulhu Mansion” – a really, really bad film.

  • I’ve been a huge supporter of Near Dark for years

This isn’t another special edition is it? I don’t think that much more can be said that wasn’t in the other S.E.

  • Pod People got no reason to live.

It wasn’t until Mat mentioned “Cthulhu Mansion” that it clicked who this was. This guy’s movies are notoriously bad. I’ll need to look at “Pieces” if you guys didn’t throw something at the screen halfway through.

  • I like Near Dark. The little kid vampire was pretty silly, but Henriksen and Paxton were great.

  • You guys should check out the Terminator 3 fan edit. It’s tons better than the original.

  • I will Google up the fan edit some time. Although, IMO, the movie isn’t bad in it’s theatrical form.

In fact, the only thing that was disappointing about it was no Ed Furlong. To be fair, Nick Stahl was fine.

For that fucking matter, why not cast the now-adult Ed Furlong in McG’s T4? I want a doughy John Connor who represents the rest of us!
