On the fence about Orphan

I’ve been starved for movies to go see in the theater this summer so I’m sort of tempted to go see Orphan, which opens today.

The reviews are sort of “meh,” although Ebert seems to like it a lot.

You want a good horror film about a child from hell, you got one. – Roger Ebert on Orphan

Then I remind myself that I don’t really care what Ebert thinks. I guess I treat his opinions like I do some of my other film snob friends. Meaning, if he says something is good, then I will put some stock in that opinion because he “knows his stuff” and has high standards. On the other hand, if he says something is bad, I can’t really take that to heart because I like plenty of “bad” movies.

Any of you guys gonna check out Orphan?

  • I’ll probably check it out on dvd. Not in theaters b/c although it looks very watchable, it doesnt look any better a dozen other similar movies on netflix I have yet to see.. Plus I dont really have friends that are into horror movies, and going to a (likely) mediocre movie by myself isnt my idea of fun.

Hopefully its decent, least as good as The Good Son., which was no Mikey, but entertaining and worth a watch.

  • Yup… killer kids five me the heebie jeebies, so I’m all over it.

Let’s see if it lives up to my current psychotic progeny fav, The Children!

  • no. that kid looks like a fucking brat and i don’t want to stare at her for two hours.

  • I might catch this later today. It all depends on a single phone call. Don’t have much going on so why not? ;)

  • I don’t think it’s playing at the theater that’s closest to my house, so that may be be the deciding factor for me.

    I’m flaky like that.

  • I really want to hear more of my fellow friends’/podcasters’ take on the film before I race to check it out. I’m all for what could be a genuinely effective horror flick, but until I hear the positive words of shows that I consider personal “authorities” on the subject, I don’t want to throw my money around all nilly-willy.

  • Reviews on Google are saying the movie is filled with gore, violence, cussing, and sexual scenes. Sounds like an awesome movie! BUT at the same time these are average shmucks writing the reviews so by gore they might mean a papercut and by sexual scenes I bet they’re talking about the exposure of a knee cap.

  • Kneecap LOL

I’ll prolly check it out if I can get awy from mafia Wars on Facebook Damn im addicted to that game

  • Ok, so I read a spoiler on the ending of this movie and, if what I read is true, it’s pretty insane and silly. I’ll totally watch this on DVD down the road.
