Outpost Doom: The Final Weekend

The long journey of Outpost Doom finally ends tomorrow night (and into Saturday morning). As we edited the movie together, we found a handful of shots that needed to be re-shot for various reasons (bad lighting, sound screwup, etc.). There aren’t many, only about 10 or so, but there is one death scene that needs to be re-shot and we’re gonna need a few more monster shots. It shouldn’t take too long and because Steve is in Nebraska for vacation, we’re gonna knock everything out tomorrow night. A little over a year after Outpost Doom finished principal shooting, we’re back to finish up the last little bit. Technically, we don’t really need most of the stuff we’re gonna be re-shooting, but the new shots will add needed polish to our film. No need to cut corners when we can just spend a night in a cold ass barn bitching at each other in order to make the film that much better. Other stuff on the docket this weekend is a few voiceovers and a bit of foley work. Spooky McPhee, who snapped some great behind the scenes pics last summer will be on hand to get some staged “action shots” for promotional purposes.

After that, it’s working on the score. We’ll be doing a private screening of the film for close friends and family only on the 24th in order to get some general feedback and to make sure that the story makes sense (It’s a murder mystery, so it’s kinda important that everything works at the conclusion). Then final tweaks before our public world premiere of the film at the Drunken Zombie Film Festival on November 7th.

After that, who knows? I’m not really sure what our plan is once the film festival is done. Probably some sort of DVD release early next year. Turnaround on that should be fairly quick since all of the DVD extras are in the can (with the exception of the DZFF featurette).

And then it’s on to the next film. I don’t know if it’s because we all think far more highly of Outpost Doom than The Grand Horror, but there seems to be a lot more ideas bouncing around our skulls for our 3rd film. TGH and OD both went into production as “the idea”. There was nothing else competing against them. It was pretty much “this is what we’re doing”. This time around, there are lots of things to choose from. I’ve got a couple ideas: one a slasher and the other dealing with the inhabitants of Massachusetts. There is talk of doing a science fiction film, complete with tons of Sci-Fi channel (no, I won’t use their new stupid name change) level CG. A while back we were discussing a horror buddy-cop comedy. Another person is working on a script involving ninjas, warlocks, and yoga instructors. And Deejay still argues for a musical. If I had to put on my political prediction cap, I’d say that right now the wind is blowing towards something science fiction and something comedic.

Pretty soon, Outpost Doom will be in our rear view mirror and it’ll be on to the next bigger and better thing. I have no idea what we’ll be doing, but it’ll definitely be interesting figuring it out :)

  • Massachusetts, huh? I’m picturing a zombie-slasher about the Kennedy brothers.

  • Have fun this weekend and may the celluloid/DV gods be with you.

  • If only DeeJay wouldn’t have spoiled the ending for me…

  • Quick, we gotta come up with a new ending! One Deejay doesn’t know so he stops spoiling the film :)

  • It turns out that Deejay is Keyser Söze and Jeremy was actually a ghost the whole time, but only Haley Osment could see him.

  • I’ve always wondered what I’m pointing at in this picture. God’s approval, perhaps?

  • Hope Deejay was able to use the tentacles.

  • Deejay sent an unfinished clip of the tentacles and I thought you did a great job with them.

I don’t know the technical mumbo jumbo to give you a definite answer of whether or not we can use them, though. That’s Deejay’s realm and I haven’t heard what he plans to do with them.

For what it’s worth, they looked good from my perspective.

  • awww, third movie.

how about ‘Ali: The adorable, cuddly ghost that could”? Eh? Any takers? Or you could come film in Chicago like Dark Knight or the new NOES film. come on, you know you want to.

  • I’d totally be down for filming something in Chicago. That town is kickass.

Hey Ali, how does it feel to know that you’re now the conservative’s poster child for all that’s evil and wrong with America? New York is feeling slighted :)

  • Why don’t you guys just try to finish your zombie movie?
