Just a local news item of note: Ron Jeremy to debate merits of porn at UNL event.

Students will have the opportunity to engage in an intelligent, open discussion thanks to the University Program Council. “A Debate On Pornography: Pro vs. Con” will be in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room tonight at 7:30 p.m., free with a NCard. 

Porn actor Ron Jeremy and activist Susan Cole will argue over the worth of pornography: whether it is demeaning or empowering to women.

“It’s an open debate,” said Jason Dunn, a junior film studies major and UPC diversity education chair. “Both will have opening and closing statements and why they feel that way.” 

Jeremy will contend pornography’s merits. Known in the industry for his 9.75-inch penis, Jeremy was also ranked the No. 1 porn star of all time by trade journal Adult Video News. 

“He’s our celebrity for the event,” Dunn said. “He’s been in 2,000 porn movies. I don’t know how that’s humanly possible, but he did it.”
