Stephen Hawking warns over making contact with aliens

In a series for the Discovery Channel the renowned astrophysicist said it was “perfectly rational” to assume intelligent life exists elsewhere.

“If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans,” he said.

  1. Hawking’s preaching to the choir.

We’ve all seen Independence Day. We know what’s gonna happen. I just hope Will Smith and Seth Brundle are still alive to save us.

  2. I recorded this episode and the one about time travel and watched them today. It’s an amazing show and I highly recommend everyone tune in if you have any interest in science at all.

  3. That bare-bones article makes me wonder if Hawking’s comments weren’t taken out of context somewhat. If an alien civilization has the power and skills to travel the gulfs of space, i rather doubt we have anything they’d need.
