Episode 15: (10-06-2006) Download Link Hosts: Mat w/ appearance by Jeff and Steve Category: Solo show Format: Dead Lantern News, Indie Spotlight Band of the Week, Reviews, DVD Releases Running Time: 39 min
Description
News this week includes a mysterious illness for George Romero and a new 300 trailer. We also spotlight the band Deadsy, run through a few reviews and end with our DVD releases of the week.
The first and possibly only time a band was spotlighted.
Quotes
Mat: “Anybody who knows me knows I’m an Ancient history junkie. I love this stuff. It’s like crack to me.”
Steve: “I imagine this is the same type of crap that made all those Japanese kids break out into seizures years ago during an episode of Pokemon.”
Steve: “Exploding heads make me smile.”
Steve: “I hate the South.”
Jeff: “Yo hippie, what kind of dude are you?”
Steve: “Amducious!”
Mat: “Any film with Jeffrey Combs is a winner in my book.”
Mat: “If you can put the phrase ‘chicks covered in blood’ and ‘German Expressionism’ in the same sentence, you’ve got something going for you there.”
An absolute waste of an episode. Jeff and Steve provide a couple reviews but other than that, this one is totally forgettable. The Deadsy spotlight was because I was friends with the band from way back. They were trying to “break out” from anonymity and asked if I’d play a couple of their tunes on the show. They’re basically over as a band, but I recommend checking out their stuff. Very different from what you generally hear. God, these solo shows…when will they end? This is like the Splattercast’s Dark Ages.

We’ve mentioned this a couple times on the Splattercast and you’ve probably been seeing the blog posts, but I just wanted to point out that we do have an actual Archive Page that will have all the links to the blog posts in it.
We’ve barely started this epic project but it seems to be going pretty well so far.
Also, anybody can contribute. So if you listen to any of these old episodes and you catch a quote or moment that you feel we haven’t documented, just send an e-mail and we’ll update the blog post.

Episode 14: (09-21-2006) Download Link Hosts: Mat w/ appearance by Jeff Category: Solo show Format: Dead Lantern News, Indie Spotlight of the Week, Contest Giveaway, Reviews, DVD Releases Running Time: 53 min
Description
No news this week other than proclaiming that you can see our short film “I’m not going out there…” on the website and at the Middle of Nowhere Film Festival. 5 years later, you can see it as an extra on the dvd for The Grand Horror. The Indie spotlight of the week is The Muffin Man. There is also a contest giveaway (wonder if we actually ever sent anything out, I don’t remember…) before wrapping up with DVD releases.
The first contest/giveaway. The trivia question asked what was the name of the Indian Tribe whose burial ground caused all the problems in Pet Semetary?
A mention of a new Dead Lantern Project based on the Axeman of New Orleans. Time to dig out those notes…
Quotes
Mat: “Welcome back to another hideous installment of Deadlantern.com’s bloodtacular Splattercast.”
Mat: “I’ve completely lost my train of thought.”
Mat: “Shouldn’t all detectives be grizzled? I mean, c’mon.”
Mat: “The beautiful gypsy freak who killed them both.”
Mat: “It was a sci-fi original film and we all know how absolutely crap those movies are.”
Mat on MWtSB: “I just sat there with a dumb look on my face.”
Mat: “Bruce Campbell’s directing abilities….he’s got no style. The shot selection is super generic.”
Jeff: “So while the guy and the witch are getting it on, this nasty spider-like claw comes out of her crotch and tears off the dude’s wiener.”
Jeff: “Wiener zombie.”
Mat: “Whatever we think is cool we think you will think is cool.”
Mat on Stephen King’s The Long Walk: “If I ever become an A-List Hollywood director…that is the film I will make.”
Apparently, I tried to be a Cryptkeeper-esque punsmith when opening my solo shows. There wasn’t a whole lot in this episode. We did begin doing contests due to all the screeners we were getting. I also mention how much I think sci-fi channel movies are crap, but my opinion on that topic has changed considerably over the years. Now, I enjoy them quite a bit for what they are. I had completely forgotten about our Axeman project. It never got past the idea stage, but there’s an example of yet another project we had simmering on the stove. Also, I sense a pattern with Jeff. He likes movies involving “Wiener zombies.” First Necro Files, now Evil Clutch…you alright, dude?

Episode 13: (09-013-2006) Download Link Hosts: Mat w/ appearance by Steve Category: Solo show Format: News, Indie Spotlight of the Week, Review, DVD Releases Running Time: 22 min
Description

Quotes
Mat: “Welcome everyone to DeadLantern’s Invincible Splattercast.”
Mat: “Spooky…has decided to get married and will be absent from his decrepit mansion for the next few weeks.”
Mat: “Lets get this Bar Mitzvah started.”
Mat: “The Thing is one of my absolute favorite movies ever…I’m kind of excited for a prequel. It may be kind of neat.”
Mat on Masters of Horror: “I’ll definitely be ordering Showtime again, like the sucker that I am…I didn’t enjoy the first season…But hey, you can’t go wrong when the classic directors are behind the lens.”
Mat: “I hate Tobe Hooper.”
Steve on Ellory Elkayem: “I have no idea how to pronounce this guys name and that’s probably a good thing for his sake because that means I can’t tell people who I want to kick in the throat.”
Steve: “This is the absolute worst zombie movie I’ve ever seen and I actually managed to sit through 20 minutes of Children of the Living Dead.
Mat on Steve: “That’s one bitter, bitter man. Oh yes, bitter.”
Mat: “If you just want to tell us how much we suck, e-mail us, I guarantee we’ll read it on the air.”
This was my first solo show and I tried to keep it as short as possible. At 22 minutes, this may very well be the shortest Splattercast in the archive. This is probably most “famous” for being Steve’s first episode. A couple Steve traits are evident right off the bat. First, he’s the “zombie guy”, which is a label that never quite sticks. Even from the beginning, the Splattercast hosts, generally, have not cared much for zombies or zombie movies at all. Steve was a big fan and we brought him on board to add that dimension. Secondly, Steve’s “Hater with violence” persona shines through immediately. So much that I even mention how “bitter” the guy is when his review is done This episode also reiterates how much I disliked Tobe Hooper at the time and how excited I am for anything Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, etc., as I slurp all over the potential of 300. And of course, we had Deejay write some better opening intro music and I tossed in some cliche horror quotes to open the show. I wonder what episode it becomes that we jettison Deejay’s music? He’s done quite a few different intros over the years but we never seem to stick with any of them.
