Dredd totally ripped off “The Raid: Redemption” it was the exact same set up.
A Fistful of Dollars ripped off “Yojimbo”. It was the exact same set up.
THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN was a rip-off of SEVEN SAMURAI.
Truth be told, though, the script for DREDD was written and developed well before THE RAID, but THE RAID made it to the screen first. This is just one of those coincidences that happen from time-to-time because of the nature of our collective experiences as a society and how creative people of the same era often extrapolate their ideas from similar sources. Gareth Evens, the British director of THE RAID, admitted he got his ideas from the 80′s action films he loved growing up, and I’ve read almost the same statement from Alex Garland, one of the writers of DREDD. Both admitted to be hugely influenced by DIE HARD and having reconstructed the plot of that film so that the building was home to the terrorist and the hero was the intruder. Neither ripped the other off. Just a coinkydink.
Thanks for the BIRTHDAY shout out, guys!!!
A “Fistfull of Dollars” didn’t come out the same year as “Yojimbo” though.
Not to mention that was pretty much a Western remake. Dredd has nothing to do with The Raid. So bad comparison Mr. Mat.
Uh oh…
My life is too good to waste time arguing with our retarded listeners, Steve. I’ve grown!
This was never an argument. I was right.
I thought you died of AIDS.
