According to this site, here is a preview of the Grand Prix Lincoln playmat art. It’s by Ron Spencer, a really wonderful Nebraska artist. I’m considering taking the day off of work so I can get to the event center right at opening – I will be super bummed out if I can’t get my hands on one of these mats!

Time for another midnight MTG pre-release tourney! The twist this time is that players have to choose a faction, Mirran or Phyrexian, and will get different sealed product based on the chosen faction. I’m hoping to do multiple events and try out both options.

My first impression is that the Phyrexian sealed pools are probably going to be more powerful, on a baseline, than the Mirran pools. I hope the infect mechanic doesn’t just rape everyone to death!

About 4 times per year, a new Magic: The Gathering set is released and I can’t help myself from posting a bit about it. Spoilers for the new set, Scars of Mirrodin, have started coming out and it’s looking pretty cool. Poison counters? Blast from the past, dude! I’m gonna poison the sh*t outta you. Pre-releases are September 25-26.

Check out this dramatic image from next spring’s large MTG set, believed to be called Rise of the Eldrazi. Sorin Markov has quickly become a favorite character of mine so I’m interested to see him playing what appears to be a major role in the story.

YoJoe.com has a complete list with photos of the new G.I. Joe movie figures.

They look okay, I suppose. At least they’re in the same classic 3.75″ scale. They’re suffering from that “Transformers effect” where the classic designs are scrapped for a more modern/realistic take that’s just barely evocative of the original look.

I’m still holding out hope that this movie won’t blow chunks. We’ll find out in a few weeks!

Check out these silly-yet-awesome Thriller headphones.

The headphones, which won the Nokia headset design competition in 2008, feature gravestones, zombies and that creepy, yellow-eyed wolf bursting through the door. Though only one pair was made by Nokia into a working model, we hope that Jackson’s passing inspires Nokia to produce at least a limited-edition run of the freaky-awesome headphones.

New Joshua Hoffine Photography

We have had a couple of entries in the past featuring Joshua Hoffine’s photography. His photographs are some of the best horror artwork I’ve seen in the last couple of years. The photos and sets always bring back memories of hiding under the covers, hoping that the blanket would somehow shield you from the monster under your bed or in the closet.

Here is his latest entry from the “After Dark, My Sweet” series, “Snake”:

The “Welcome” sign over the air vent is a very nice touch. Visit his blog to read about the production of “Snake” as well as his other photographs.
