Here’s some info on the set and here are the details for the Lincoln event.

Students will have the opportunity to engage in an intelligent, open discussion thanks to the University Program Council. “A Debate On Pornography: Pro vs. Con” will be in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room tonight at 7:30 p.m., free with a NCard. 

Porn actor Ron Jeremy and activist Susan Cole will argue over the worth of pornography: whether it is demeaning or empowering to women.

“It’s an open debate,” said Jason Dunn, a junior film studies major and UPC diversity education chair. “Both will have opening and closing statements and why they feel that way.” 

Jeremy will contend pornography’s merits. Known in the industry for his 9.75-inch penis, Jeremy was also ranked the No. 1 porn star of all time by trade journal Adult Video News. 

“He’s our celebrity for the event,” Dunn said. “He’s been in 2,000 porn movies. I don’t know how that’s humanly possible, but he did it.”

I’m planning to go to tournaments on both Saturday and Sunday here in Lincoln. The worldwide player base is up and more stores are getting the opportunity to do prereleases. I’m excited to support a new location for Magic here in town on Sunday, in addition to going to the big event at the more established shop on Saturday.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game and you have access to an Xbox 360, I heartily recommend the Live Arcade version of the game, Duels of the Planeswalkers. It’s an excellent introduction and will teach you all the basics in a pretty fun package.

The Skunkape Story is presented as a documentary, narrated by a delightfully nerdy university professor. Various eyewitness accounts and reenactments detail appearances of the bigfoot-like creature as he terrorizes our sleepy little state. It’s very “PG,” the Skunkape doesn’t really tear anyone limb from limb – he mostly just jumps out from behind a tree and freaks people out.

The movie runs around 40 minutes, which I think is absolutely the right choice for this sort of film. Too many filmmakers feel they just have to shoot for 90+ minutes, when a shorter form might serve them better.

The Skunkape Story will be made available as a free download on February 1st, 2010 at the following sites:

Downtown at The Bourbon Theater the Loup River Band is having a CD release party. Show is at 9pm, $4 for 21+ $6 for 18-20. Here’s an excerpt from today’s Journal Star:

Loup River Band & Street Choir has made itself a fine album. It’s called The Year Of Biscuits And Gravy, and it’s being released tonight at The Bourbon Theater. That’s the who, what, when, and where for the show that will showcase one of the best Lincoln records of the year. Ranging from the straight country of “Game Day Waltz” to the Springsteen Nebraska-ish “I Seem To Have It All”, through rock ‘n’ roll, alternative country-rock, and a little folk, the Loup River Band has crafted a disc that is of a place and time, but also somehow timeless and universal, as is the case with all great roots music.

Across town and at the same time (9pm) is a free showing of The Skunkape Story at the Joyo Theater. I’m planning to go to Skunkape but I’m sure both events will be loads of fun. Have a great weekend, everybody!
