Splattercast #167 is up.

We announce the nominees for the 3rd Annual Splatcademy awards and then take a bite out of the Jaws franchise.

Splatcademy Award Nominees Announced!

Here you go folks, the official list of nominees for the 3rd Annual Splatcademy Awards. We’ve also included links to all the podcasts presenting. It’s going to be fun!

Check out the nominees and let the debate begin!

Full coverage and discussion of the nominees on the upcoming Splattercast. And remember, voting goes live on February 1st, so you have a week to think about who you’ll vote for.

The 3rd Annual Splatcademy Awards…coming March 8th!

We’ve been mentioning it on the last couple of Splattercast episodes, but preparation for the 3rd Annual Splatcademy Awards is well underway. This year, the show will take place on Monday, March 8th. One day after Hollywood’s Academy Awards, which by now, has become tradition for us. I’ve set up a new page that you can check for all the latest news on presenters and nominees. But here’s some fresh info.

  • We’ve completed selecting the nominees in each category. We’ve got one film left to check out that may change a couple categories if it is deemed necessary: Sick Girl. Otherwise, nominees are set.
  • You might have heard that the Academy Awards will feature 10 nominees for Best Picture this year, we have decided to piggyback off our sister awards ceremony ( ;) ) and do the same. Should make for a wide-open field!
  • We’re going to be courting some potential controversy this year, and for once, I’m not the cause of it! Could a big name, well-received, genre film have been left out of the nominations entirely? You’ll have to wait and see.
  • The full list of nominees will be revealed on Monday’s Splattercast (167) and voting will go live on February 1st.

We’re hoping to make this year’s show even bigger than last year! We’ve got some new podcast presenters and might have some super secret features added to the show.

Suck It, Nebraska!

Updated: Splatcademy Awards ballot issues

Update (Jeff): Whaddup, guys? I have dialled back the anti-spam (duplicate vote) checking on the vote.deadlantern.com ballot page. Hopefully everyone will be able to use it now. It looked fine to me in my pre-launch testing but people were running into problems that I didn’t forsee and I apologize for the inconvenience.

If you still can’t vote at the ballot site, you can send in a ballot via e-mail, using the doc that Mat uploaded (see below) or just e-mail him a list of your choices (mat@deadlantern.com). Mat will keep track of these manual votes using his trusty abacus. Nobody knock it over before the voting is done!

Also, on the electronic side, it may appear to you that you can vote multiple times now, but rest assured we are still logging the uniqueness of each vote and will be able to filter out spamming attempts from the final tallies. We also reserve the right to send Deejay to the houses of multiple voters to have a little chat with them about the sanctity of elections. We have your IP addresses and Mat can social engineer your ISP service reps into telling us where you live.
