The Dark Around Your Heart

Announcing a new Dead Lantern Pictures project! The Dark Around Your Heart….

First off, super thanks to Matt O’Neill who has been doing some great conceptual images for us behind the scenes, including the above promo image. If you want some rad graphic design stuff for your indie features, shoot him an e-mail and he can get you a full portfolio of his work.

I’m very excited about this project. As many of you know, we had a project called Isabelle that sort of fell apart this past year. There were many reasons. First and foremost being that we just are not capable of pulling off the FX work required for it. Second being that we had issues with a diva actor that didn’t end well. And Thirdly, and I’ll be honest here, my heart wasn’t 100% into it. Of course I wanted to make it and I still think its a good solid slasher story that I hope we can do someday, but it was written primarily as a response to the, well, let’s just say, lukewarm reaction to the story (i.e. talky, dialogue heavy) driven horror that Outpost Doom was. So I was like “Okay, here’s my take on splatter.” And again, I like Isabelle. And I would gladly make it if I thought we could pull off the FX. One of the reasons I lost interest (that might be too harsh a description) was because I didn’t want to water down any of the FX sequences because they were the entire point of the film. A slasher with some rad kills. I just didn’t think we had the knowledge or talent to be able to do that stuff yet. I would rather not shoot it and hold off for a later date than to compromise the entire point of the film just to put something out. Plus, it was a good example of us biting off more than we could chew. I mean, the flick had 35 roles!

So I needed something else.
