Archiving The Hot Carls #4: Hot Nerd

imgserver A long time ago, in an internet far, far away, a young Deejay uploaded the THC classic “Hot Nerd” to Garageband.com. It is still there.

Background vocals courtesy of Mrs. Tina Fontaine. And yeah, I believe that is a kazoo chorus :)

Check out all of the killer reviews of “Hot Nerd” right here.

Deejay also put “Ska” as the genre. I’m not sure that is accurate :)

Who knows what other wonders from The Hot Carls canon are floating around the internets….

Archiving The Hot Carls #3: THC and Intr0vert

Many of you are forced against your will to listen to T.J. whine about his tough life as a Hollywood graphic designer every week on the Splattercast. Now that he is hobnobbing with all of his elitist friends I’m sure they’ll love to check out what he was designing in the early days. What you have here is an Evil Dead II inspired flyer for yet another show at the legendary “Cellar” in Aurora, Nebraska. Int0vert was T.J.’s band, but as you can see, they were relegated to the opening act of the headliner: The Hot Carls. :)

Next time T.J. is in Nebraska, I’m going to have him autograph this.

MaT, Spooky, Dave, and Deejay @ The Cellar. Aurora, Nebraska circa 1999.

Archiving The Hot Carls #1: “Planet of the Apes”

We here at Dead Lantern and the Splattercast haven’t always dabbled in the darker arts of filmmaking, blogging, and podcasting. No, sir. We used to play in bands. Attempting to explain the history of those bands is better suited to someone with far more time and patience than I have. As you can tell, we were shitty pop punk. If you aren’t repulsed, there may be more goodies where this came from…

The video is taken from a live performance at the UNL radio station where Jeff’s wife Tina (who you heard on the latest Splattercast) was the disc jockey…or something :) This is footage taken by some local videographer doing a public access show called “Freakout” that aired on February 8th, 2001.

That obnoxious guy with hair (believe it or not) playing guitar is Deejay. The striking fellow playing the bass is Spooky McPhee. The strapping lad doing backup vocals is Braden. The geek playing the drums is I.

For those of you who despise Youtube and its crappy compression, you can also view this video in “better” quality on Vimeo.

Rock out with your cock out.
