Splattercast #408 is up and it’s dead sexy.
We’re just about to kick off Noirvember 2014 and I got to thinking, the Noirvember episodes have got to be among the more worthwhile in the history of the Splattercast. If you weren’t following the show back when we started the theme month, you might go check out these older episodes – or, at least (better yet?), check out the films that we discussed.
Week 1 of Noirvember: M, I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang, The Black Cat, Murders in the Rue Morgue, and The Public Enemy. The first week of Noirvember kicks off with a bang! This week, we discuss the cultural influences of noir and look at a group of films that are antecedents of noir and which influenced the films of the 40’s and 50’s.
Noirvember continues with the experimental phase of Classical Noir (1940-43). This week we talk about Stranger on the Third Floor, The Maltese Falcon, This Gun for Hire, I Wake Up Screaming, and Shadow of a Doubt.
The studio period of noir: Double Indemnity, Detour, The Big Sleep, The Postman Always Rings Twice, and The Blue Dahlia.
This week we take a look at the crazier side of film noir with a look at the final phase of the 1950’s: Kiss Me Deadly, Touch of Evil, White Heat, D.O.A., and Panic in the Streets.
This week, we talk about the intersection between horror and noir with some fun films like Cast a Deadly Spell, The Brute Man, Witch Hunt, The Brute Man, and the Tales from the Crypt episode You, Murderer!
Sunset Boulelvard and Nightmare Alley.
Robert Mitchum as a private eye wrapped up with a femme fatale in Out of the Past and a hustler who gets entangled in his own con in Night and the City.
Criss Cross and The Killing.
Two John Huston classics: The Asphalt Jungle and Key Largo.
Um, I guess we didn’t do one that year…
A couple Orson Welles flicks, The Lady From Shanghai and The Third Man.
Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca and In A Lonely Place.
The Killers and Kiss of Death.
Kirk Douglas in Ace In The Hole and James Cagney in Angels With Dirty Faces.
Gilda and Laura.
A trailer for another one of our movies.
DVD/BluRay drops like a hot ass this Fall! Keep listening to the Splattercast for full details and info.
Very excited to update that we have a full rough cut of our horror anthology SHIVERS DOWN YOUR SPINE! In the next month, we’ll be finalizing the sound, score, and visual FX, with a target release date on blu-ray sometime this fall. Perhaps around Halloween? You can follow the Dead Lantern tumblr page for details.
Additionally, we’ll be premiering WHISPERING BOARD and LAST BREATH at Osfest on Saturday, August 2nd in Omaha Nebraska, along with a full trailer for THE EYES OF ISABELLE. Come out and check it out!
